I agree with Dark Mishkin in that there's really no way to tell unless you have an established relationship with someone. It would be nice if you could somehow categorize your friends...it would even be better if you could put notes on people (I play online poker, it's very useful) ie: "This person knows his business" "This person is a scammer" "Don't drop any soap near this guy unless you're feelin' a little freaky"...etc.

Since in this case the demand curve is not going to change that much. A Runner reduction will do wonders in driving the acceptable price back up.

Then once the market is at an acceptable level for runners, they can start their services again at elevated prices...

In reality with a total runner lockout the demand curve would adjust upward as well to allow for long term equallibrum. Thus causeing a more stable price increase. this prevents longterm economic upsurges and downturns with fluctuation. Guess what? this si exactly what OPEC does with oil in the real world. lol I swear I want to develop an econ class around the GW economy... it would be so fun to track in a classroom.

Actually, I think I have the explanation the OP wanted here and it is in part in this post. Yes, number of suppliers increasing would shift price down so therefore reducing supply (something he doesn't want to do aka quit) would increase price. However, I have a feeling this is actually linked to a drop in demand. Would take more data to verify, but simply, people aren't buying new copies of guildwars right now. Additionally. with factions around the corner people are probably not even starting many new characters. Since each character only has to visit droks once, the demand is finite and if less new characters are being made this will restrict the amount of cutomers. This means that to get a full group of fares runners will charge less.

Yet, Ingram may still be right (or we are both right, markets don't exist as isolated variables). I am sure alot of these guys are new runners. True "pro" anything are rare. People shift in ways to make money in this game alot as long as there is no starting cost. Simply, people get bored of whatever and stop. However, if the influx of new people coming and leaving stays close it would mean price stays same. However, if people leave slower then new ones coming in it would flood the market and alot of the old runners (such as OP) would quit seeing it as a deflating market and search for new opportunities until the run restabilized (I bought two runs back in the day for 2k each).

As for a lockout, even OPEC has cheaters and they have militaries to enforce agreements. Unless one runner can actually kill or stop other runners, no monopoly could ever occur.

Default I have not played this game

I' m lurking the boards. I have not played GW yet. I don't even know if I can play it because I live in China and there is no local version available on the market (I hear you can play on international servers though)

Question: What is running? It seems that people are paying alot of gold ... 2000 -3000 G ... for the services of another player to help him get accross a difficult area. Is that right? I'm coming from WOW, where 2000G is like a year's worth of gold collection...don't know how much it is in this game. But why do people pay money for help getting from one place to another (if that is what is going on here). Can someone explain?

I live in China so maybe I be of help.

Buy a cd key and download the client through the main company webpage. You can then decide whether to play on the Japanesse, US, European, Korean, or Taiwan/Hong Kong servers by selecting the location you live in (no affect on gameplay, merely a choice in who you are interacting with, it doesn't check and I play on a US server with many others who live in China and other places that are not the US). The Taiwan\Hong Kong servers use traditional chinese character btw and there is no simplified option. However, no matter what server you are on you can switch the games language options on your computer.

2000g or even maybe 3000g is an affordable price for that point in the game. Gold is not the same as in WoW and this service is not needed for game play, it is a convience for those who want to have access to best items and equipment very early in the game.

Playing on an international server means you can play with people from any home country server. For the Korean, Japanese, and Hong Kong servers there is a pay according to time played optiion as well as a pay once and have infinite time option. I am not sure where you would buy minutes however as they are not sold in China.

Guildwars used to not be able to run in China due to the national firewall interrupting your service, however, it works fine now.

Guildwars is fun. I recommend it strongly. If comparing it to WoW (as many do) grinding and equipment matter a lot in WoW and almost none in guildwars. The game rewards experience and skill and has a rather pleasent community of players IMO though still has the usual people who don't play well with others.

Edit: Typo

OMG studentochaos you rock hard! Thanks! I can't believe I found someone in China who is playing this. How is the connection to the US server? Lag ok? I know this is totally OT...sorry to everyone else.

Actually, it seems pretty cool that you can pay for in-game services.

Yeah also sorry to take thread off topic, but nvm that.

Connection to US server used to make it unplayable. At an old apartment I found my ADSL glitched and gave me lag but now I have a new place and it is as good as it was when I used to live in the US (when the game came out).

Start playing here and you will find lots who play from this timezone or nearby ones. I have made lots of friends from NZ and Aus especially. A fair number of Chinese people play guildwars too (who are not sweatshop in game gold farmers and even those gold farmer guys are nice). The only problem is that some rare times you will want to do a quest or mission and you will find yourself in a dead game (luckily the game provides AI teammates). Huge numbers of people play this game, but once in a while (around midafternoon here) almost no one is playing on the US server at all (they sleep) and even the European server people can't be found (they work). However, it isn't a big deal. Also, there is a nice plus side to the strange hours. Because you play at weird hours you tend to play with a lot more older gamers who work jobs that restrict their play to strange times. This is great because most of those people have nothing to prove to anybody and are very hepful to people who don't know something or need help.

If you want to know anything else send me a message on this forum through the private messages so we don't wreck this thread.

I have a War/Mon which i use purely for running and have been doing Lions Arch to all Desert locations and the infusion run. When i first started i learnt the routes for myself. The Lions to Sanctum route i use was made by my lvl 12 Mes (at the time) who did it the old fashioned fight your way there method. The skills i use i selected for myself based on some practice runs and a practical need for certain skills skills at certain points. I prefer to use the quickest safest routes usually rather than the most direct routes. Initially when i started i used to advertise RUNNING TO SANCTUM CAY 1.2K (400g@ Bergen Hot Springs, [email protected], 400g Sanctum) and with that throw in D'alessio and Fishermans for free. I didn't do many test runs really but because i'd made myself the safest routes, with designated regen areas i was managing to complete the runs without any problems and probably did 10 or 12 runs before i suffered a death. I received PM's from other runners saying "do us all a favour and charge 3k", "WTF" says I "Thats a rip off for a 20 minute run". Anyway as time has progressed I increased to 500g a leg and included the sanctum mission as so many happy clients were requesting it. I'd not tried it at first but was already running the desert locations for my guildies so saw it as an opportunity to extend my adverts to come across as being more experienced to RUNNING TO CRYSTAL DESERTS 2k ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected], 500g Desert) ALL DESERT LOCATIONS 2K, with payment at the desert broken up similar with 500g at Augury and 500g at each mission location.

Now i'm not gonna claim to be a pro at these runs when i've only been doing these runs a few months, heck i don't even know what it takes to be considered a pro, and don't really care. But when i advertise 100% Success, 100% success means i will get you there guaranteed, you cannot ever guarantee never ever dying on such long runs, random spawns, late nights tired eys, lag, batteries going on mouse but you should know if there are any potential areas where they can get you and be prepared for them, ie a couple of Barb locations on run to TOA and the teleporters in desert. Experience will mean that if these situations occur then 9 time outta 10 you get out of the problem calmly regen and go for it again. I can accept a death when i am running on rare occassions but cannot accept more than one death on a run, this means its time for my runner to put her running shoes for the night. But a death or two does only delay the run for a minute or two.

Newbs are pretty easy to spot, they try to run with you :P I'm sure all you other runners out there appreciate how important it is to have designated regen spots where you can regen your health and purge conditions so that you can continue with full strength. Nothing worse than having some newb drag aggro into the area's if you do actually need to use it. Even worse you get killed because of the aggro they create and don't see why it was there fault "yeh but you guarantee 100% success"....."yeh if you stay outta the way and leave it to me". This has become a rare occasion now as i no longer wait for people or try drag them along with me using my charge, the sooner they're dead the better

Eeeeeek, i'm making myself sound like i die alot when 95% are flawless runs in uber fast time. Just trying to state that for all runners i believe at times S**T happens.

I've built up some good client relationships since who have been more than pleased with my super fast runs, low prices, and polite and helpful banter en route. Alot insist on paying me much more than i ask for.

Free runs: All guildies, and i don't mind people tagging along for the free ride with us so long as they don't get in my way. 1st time chars to Sanctum from Lions, not if i can help it. Newbs need to learn the game and anyone giving them silly amounts of money or running them to the desert or Droks for free are just being clever D**ks and spoiling the game for them.

SPAM: Do a quick 500g run to TOA for a few newbs and get nothing but SPAM pm's off them everytime they come on. How do i do this how do i do that, can you help me do this mission, can you give so and so. How much do you want for your 500g? Don't you think I have my own guild members to look after. Why you asking me whats up with your own guild? Why join a guild that has nothing to offer you?

I don't run all the time, got guildies to help, farming and some GvG to occupy my time. But its cool to do a few hours here and there for a quick buck. And to be honest i have plenty of other means for making good money. What scares me is the newbs who dedicate all their time to it so that they can tell everybody how rich they are, yet don't know anything about the game.

Rant over and out!!!!!

while i loathe runners - i see you guys as being indirectly responsible for all the idiots in ascalon with their drok armor (Anet being totally responsible for allowing arena to be used without level restricted armor) - all i can say is competition is healthy and you might want to diversify your income sources. Not always such a good idea to have all your eggs in one basket

I advertised to do the droks run last night for 2k along with the other 200 runners there were at beacons at the time. After getting no clients i said i would do the run for free and practically filled up all the spots within 20 seconds. Once i got to rankor most of the people i ran gave me 2k anyway.....one for not being an arrogant little shit and two by actually completing the run which most of the runners at beacons struggle to do anyway. If you can get any business, dont cry about it, just undercut everyone else and maybe they might piss off someday, i still made 8k and got a golden axe/sword and wand for my troubles (due to chests on the way) because if you actually make it, some people feel compelled to pay you anyway....Thats my two pence anyway, and maybe europeans are just nicer

2k for solo runs and 3k for duals runs is alright imo

If I could do the Droknar run I would do it for free. ATM my runner can handle Amnoon - Dunes and points west. He runs for free, it's just more satisfying. When I get better at staying alive you'll see me on the Drok run.

Supply and demand... and if your too high you will get more "tips" runner's showing up (beyond the normal ones that want to help).

That being said, If someone you think is charging too high, then you should decline. Bashing the runner (like experince w/ OP) is not the way to behave by any means.

I ran my 2nd account once and offered the remaining spaces for free, I got a 300g tip from one person. Took 2 tries and I rarely do the drok run or any other run for that matter.

Default 2k runners

i paid 2k for a run the other day, they made it on the second try. i have ran that run before, and if i had 2 computers would run my 2nd profile lvl 5 there myself. 2 k isnt a bad price. in my times of playing from piken to beacons, farming all the way, 2 k is about what you would have.
